Mental Health Counselling

Counselling is an evidence based therapy and here to help you address and manage emotional, psychological, and behavioural issues or challenges.

The goal of counselling is to promote mental and emotional well-being, improve coping skills, and enhance the overall quality of life for the individuals seeking help. Individuals seek counselling to improve relationships, and achieve a greater sense of mental and emotional balance. Counselling sessions are held in a confidential and non-judgmental setting, where individuals can openly discuss their thoughts, feelings, and concerns without fear of judgment or stigma.

Marisa utilises an integrative Person-Centred approach informed by Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, but also using Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Gestalt Therapy.

EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) Therapy, developed by Psychologist Francine Shapiro, is a unique therapy for addressing difficult or overwhelming life experiences, that has been in development since 1987.

Considered a 'gold standard' evidence based treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) resulting from single incident trauma, emerging evidence suggests it is also effective for other mental health conditions including developmental or childhood 'little T' traumas or attachment wounds. EMDR Therapy melds seamlessly with Somatic Psychotherapy to assist with reprocessing difficult memories and helping restore one's sense of goodness and wholeness after trauma.
